Hello

I want to show You mine very simple and ordinary chipset container . it's 15 cm tall, has 42 mm diam. and 19mm thick insulation . Bottom is 5mm thick . 100% cooper except mounting . Container is cheap, because it's simple and light .

Thanks
Best Regards
Peter

Hello

2nd NB container had been going ...but "thanks" to accident showed on last picture it doesn't be finished now .

Base showed on pictures now is 20 mm think, on pics it still doesn't have some drilled holes to make surface bigger ...

Enclosure and backplate from high density plastic .

42mm pipe after "small" accident on lathe .

Thanks
Best Regards

20mm thick ? Isn't it a bit overkill ?

LOL some person told before that 5mm in previous one is much too thin , they recommend 15-20mm (5mm = LOL for them) , now You say that 20mm is too thick ...

Many people, many opinions .

But thanks for Yours .

I don't have any opinion
It's just that I was surprised of the thickness of the base.
5mm and you may have not much thermal inertia, 20mm and may be the thermal response to a sudden variation of CPU/GPU temp' will be too slow
I don't really know. I would say 10-15mm suit me better :x
Let's ask Rosco, he will do a lot of modelisation and will provide us an answer too complex to understand

It depends what you're aiming in the end : quick response, easier to tune for the first runs, or big inertia, a bit easier when you're alone.

Agree
Well, nevermind the thickness, it's a great job, as usual

Why tune ? Full throttle

It's a compromise between thermal inertia, temperature and transitory thermal state, but it's not not really important for a chipset and its modest dissipated power.
